The Food Pyramid guide

We've all learnt about it in primary and high-school. It's been stressed over and over again by our teachers, the school cafeteria, food associations, health institutes, etc - why? Because it is everything your body needs.

But what about when you are trying to lose weight, should you follow it still? Yes! But with some modifications. Let's discuss them now.

Food Pyramid

So this is the basic food pyramid. If you want to lose weight, see the top part where is says fats, oils, sweets? That part can be removed.

Food Pyramid altered for losing weight

You don't need sweets, oils and fats at all because you will get plenty by eating your other food groups. Sugars can be naturally obtained from fruits and oils and fats will be obtained from any meats and dairy products you consume.

Everything else you should be having as-is! Personally, though, I tended to eat more fruits and vegetables and barely any meat because I eventually came to not like eating meat so much. But if you follow the pyramid as it is, with exercise, you should be able to reach and maintain a healthy weight.

If you have intolerance to certain foods or are a vegetarian, then I'm sure you know to take supplements to balance it out. Do not neglect one food group because you think the foods from it are fattening, read about Calcium and weight loss if you haven't already.

And in the meantime, good luck and remember, I did it, YOU CAN DO IT!
